In the second part of the course, you will create a repeating pattern using your own artwork and learn how to prepare files for printing. It also covers how to combine images using Layer Masks to remove the background for each design element and Solid Colour Layers for background colour. It introduces the Healing Tools to correct unwanted visual lines or details in your pattern. The course covers the use of Adjustment Layers, Blend Modes and Indexed Colour to change the appearance and reduce the number of colours. They cover the use of Reflection, Layer Masks and the Offset Filter and Define Pattern to create a Pattern Fill Layer. Images are provided for the tutorials to give a consistent experience. Three tutorials will cover techniques for creating a tile for a seamless repeat from an original artwork or photograph.

You will be introduced to digitising artwork and optimising your imagery. Digital printing enables designs to be developed from a range of sources including scanned drawings and photographs. Repeating patterns allow a design to be filled across the width and length of fabric for continuous metreage.
